Peter Daniel Queal is a Greeley Colorado-based jazz guitarist and vocalist, music teacher, and inventor.

Early Life

Peter Daniel Queal was born on 2/14/55 in Grand Juntion, Colorado. His parents were journalists Calvin Peter Queal and Patricia Sullivan Queal Larsen. His sister Mary Colleen Queal was born on 12/29/57. His half sister Duffy Alice Queal was born on 2/22/70. At age 11, his parents divorced and he moved from Denver, Colorado to Laramie, Wyoming, where he finished his schooling through high school.

Queal graduated from Drury University with a Bachelor of Arts in music and the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Music Education, where he studied classical guitar. He took master's level course work at the Unviersity of Wyoming in jazz performance. He has a Master's Certificate in Guitar from Berklee College of Music.

Athletics

He was a diver on the Laramie High School diving team and was a two time Wyoming state diving champion in 1972 and 1973. He was a diver at Drury University (NAIA) 1973-1977. He served as a coach for men's springboard diving at Drury Univeristy from 1977 - 1983. He coached the Drury diving team to a total of 24 individual All American titles and 4 time national champion.

Musician

Queal incorporates a multitude of musical styles into his work. Past musical collaborations include his work with Tangent, The Beat Freaks, The Mario Asti Group, Conjunto Varietal, PQBP, Bas Mati, Por Todos, Wyoming Home Grown, Peter Queal and Friends, the Jane Robinett Quartet and performances as a guest artist in conjunction with the Wyoming Arts Council. Music festival performances include the Crested Butte Music Fest, Donkey Creek Jazz Fest, Snowy Range Music Fest, and Nowoodstock. Peter has experience as a music producer for radio and television. Other productions include the CDs "HUMILITY", "Wild Hair", the newly digitally mastered "Moments", the Latin-influenced "Conjunto Varietal-de Cuba pa' Trinidad", "PQBP Live"-a tasteful mix of standard jazz and Latin works with renowned bassist Bill Plummer and "Peter Queal Solo Guitar". Other professional experiences include performances in theatrical productions of "Godspell", "Always Patsy Cline", "A Chorus Line", "The Last Five Years", "Godspell 2011" and "Company" . Venues of note include San Francisco area clubs; the No Name Bar, Uncle Charlie’s, Escovedo’s, Yoshi’s-as well as 17 years of regular summer jazz performances in Centennial WY at the Bear Tree Tavern and the Trading Post restaurant. Peter worked in the Caribbean Islands in bands on both Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise lines.

Music Educator

Peter Queal has been a music educator for a variety of students from kindergarten through university--all age groups. He has taught at Laramie High School, the University of Wyoming, Off the Hook Arts Meadowlark Program in Colorado, and individual lessons both in person and online.

Inventor

Queal holds two U.S. patents for his inventions. His first patent was granted in 2020 is for a stringed-instrument amplification. His second patent was granted in 2023 and is for a bag (tapered).

Personal

Queal met Sandra Rifkin (b. 1950)in San Francisco, California and they were together from 1985 - 1991. In 2003, he met academic librarian Jennifer Mayer (b. 1969) in Laramie, Wyoming. Queal and Mayer obtained a civil union on August 19, 2016 in Greeley, Colorado. In 2014, Queal was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. He currently performs in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Centennial, Wyoming, Denver, Colorado, and the Northern Colorado area.
