Occupy Portland is a nonviolent movement for accountability in the United States government. Occupy Portland was created with the initial goal of expressing solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement that began in New York City on September 17, 2011.
A meeting of the General Assembly was held on the evening of September 30, 2011 to plan for the ongoing occupation to begin at noon On October 6, 2011.
The first event planned for the occupation is a march through downtown Portland beginning at SW Waterfront Park. Over the course of this event and in the days that follow, participants have pledged to act in accordance with principles of mutual respect and non-violent conflict resolution, as practiced by the participants of the Occupy Wall Street demonstration and similar demonstrations worldwide.
The exact location of the ongoing occupation has not yet been determined.
