Mukaya or Mokaya

Mukaya or Mokaya is a caste name that prevalent in North Kerala, Indian subcontinant. As per the Kerala State Govt. Gazette Notification few caste is classified as socially and educationally backward and hence deserve reservation in educational institutions for getting admissions.

In India, the constitution give certain previlages to scheduled tribes and castes for obtaining access to higher education institutions and jobs in public sector / Govt institutions. In addition to this each state goverment is empowered to conduct social studies and enactments to identify and provide support for the upliftment of socially weaker sections.

Dheevara Coomunity is another major group of people spread across the coastal regions of India. Under Dheevara community, certain sub castes or communities are identified and given certain concessions / reservations for bringing them in to the main stream. In general these communities are grouped under Other Eligible Communities (O.E.C). Communities falling under or grouped under OEC are recommended to include in the state scheduled caste and tribe lists. As per the G.O.(Ms) 10/2014/BCDD dated 23/05/2014, 30 communities of the state OBC list are included for OEC list and considered for educational assistance.

Communities fall under Dheevara/ Dheevaran are Arayan, Valan, Nulayan, Mukkuvan, Arayavathi, Valanchiyar, Paniyakal, Mokaya, Bovi, Magayar, Mogaveerar. In this Mokaya, other wise referred as Mukaya is a community people lived in groups only in the Northern Districs of Kerala. To be specific, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod districts.
