A little about myself:

  • "Ray Jameson" is not my name in "real life"; it is a pseudonym.
  • I am a U.S. citizen.
  • I am a U.S. Navy veteran.
  • I am a college graduate (AS and BA).
  • I lived the first 19 years of my life in the U.S., but since then have spent over 19 years overseas - mostly in East Asia.
  • I have spent time in over 20 countries - in Europe, Asia and the Americas - as well as over 40 states in the U.S.
  • My interests lie in history (especially East Asian history), literature, film, business and law.
  • In addition to English (my native language) I speak and read Spanish and Japanese - and have had extensive experience translating and interpreting from and to English in both those languages.
  • I have had extensive experience in the civil court system of Japan (as well as some experience in the civil court system of the U.S.) as both plaintiff and defendant, and have never come out on the losing end of a court ruling.
  • I have published numerous writings in numerous publications - from neighborhood newspapers to nationally and internationally noteworthy journals.

Concerning my time on Wikipedia and this user page:

  • I have been on and off (mostly off) Wikipedia as a contributor since 2009, and have been using this user page since 2011. Between 2009-2011 I used different user pages and names. However, I have never used two pages/names concurrently - and after beginning to use a new page/name have never gone back to a previous user page/name. (One reason for having used different pages/names is that I tended to make edits, then became busy in real life, then later went back to editing Wikipedia having forgotten my password.)
  • I changed my user name (on this page) to its current one, "Ray Jameson," in November 2015, after following Wikipedia's requirements for doing so at that time (Wikipedia:Changing username).
  • I sometimes make edits without logging in to my Wikipedia user page; therefore, those edits do not note my user name - just an IP address.

My thoughts on Wikipedia and its editors:

  • I feel there are too many personal attacks on Wikipedia and not enough sympathy for those trying to learn the ropes. In the process of learning the ropes of editing/creating Wikipedia articles I have made mistakes, but have never intentionally attempted to do anything to harm Wikipedia.
  • I believe that written drafts of prospective Wikipedia articles should be reviewed by at least two editors at Wikipedia: Articles for Creation before being published. (Nevertheless, given that there is often an extreme backlog of submissions at that desk, publishing an article without requesting review may sometimes be the best route to take.)
  • I believe that once an article has been published through the Articles for Creation desk, it should not be considered for deletion without consulting the editor(s) who had approved it for publication.
