My name is Rebecca Ly and I'm currently pursuing my Master of Science in Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to this, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. During my undergraduate education, I served as a student scholar in the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program and did research focusing on how caregivers of individuals with autism utilized social networks to communicate their needs and gain community support. I also served as the Director of Diversity for the Associated Students of Washington State University from 2013-15 where my biggest accomplishment was organizing the Multicultural Fundraising Banquet raising roughly $24,000 in support for multicultural student conferences.
Currently, I am working on research focusing on the digital divide for individuals with intellectual disabilities and I serve as a Facilitator with an organization called Girls Who Code. Through my current courses, I'm interested in exploring more about data analytics and information visualization to improve visual analytics in the healthcare industry and increase access for individuals with intellectual disabilities and chronic illnesses.
