CvWiki is a wiki engine developed in 1997 by Peter Merel. [1] CvWiki was one of the first wiki clones of the WikiWikiWeb. It served as the model for AtisWiki, which in turn served as the model for UseModWiki, the first wiki engine to run Wikipedia.[2]

CvWiki Features

edit

CvWiki was based on Wiki Base, the wiki engine of Ward Cunningham's WikiWikiWeb, which was historically the first wiki.

CvWiki included concurrent versions (CV) of wiki pages, and required installing Concurrent Versions System (CVS) software for it to run properly.[3]

When CvWiki was created it was the only WikiWikiClone with functioning Transclusion, Backlinks and WayBackMode. It used flat files for text, and supported direct transclusion of external web pages. It stored backlinks with their pages rather than searching for them, so that the backlinks popped up immediately. It was fully integrated with CVS, thereby providing unlimited undo, no edit collisions, and WayBackMode.[3]

CvWiki Clones

edit

AtisWiki by Markus Denker was based on CvWiki.

Clifford Adams developed UseModWiki in 1999 from the code of AtisWiki 0.3. UseModWiki notably serves as wiki engine for MeatballWiki, and also ran Wikipedia from January 15, 2001 until early 2002.[2]
