Ong Seong-wu (Hangul: 옹성우, born August 25, 1995) is a South Korean singer and actor. He is known for his participation in the survival reality show Produce 101 Season 2, where he finished in fifth place. He is currently promoting as a member of the show's derivative boy group, Wanna One.[1]

Early Life and Education

Ong Seong-wu was born in Incheon, South Korea. He then attended Hanlim Multi Art School,[2] graduating in 2014. He subsequently graduated from Dong Seoul University as a performing arts major.[3]

Career

Pre-debut: Produce 101, Acting Endeavours

Seong-wu participated in Produce 101 Season 2 and garnered attention for his strong vocal and dance skills during the show's first evaluation, and subsequently in his performance Super Junior's "Sorry, Sorry". He continued to impress the audiences in his subsequent performances of Jason Derulo's "Get Ugly", and the original songs "Never", "Always" and "Hands on Me". In the finale, Seong-wu finished 5th with 984,756, securing him a spot as a member of Wanna One

It was reported that Seong-wu had taken part in a short film project, “Short Film Project: Beginning”, prior to his participation in Produce 101. The short film, entitled, Seong-Woo is alright, was released on the June 19th.[4] Additionally, he also made a special appearance on the mobile drama, Idol Fever, which aired from July 7th to 17th.[5]

2017–present: Wanna One, Varieties and more projects

Seong-wu debuted as a member of Wanna One on August 7th.[6] He went on to represent the group in several appearances on variety shows such as Happy Together (2001 TV series), The Return of Superman (TV series), and Saturday Night Live Korea.[7][8][9] He has also served as a special emcee on music show broadcasts for M Countdown[10] and Inkigayo[11]. On the 21st September, it was announced that Seong-wu, together with group mate Kang Daniel, had been casted for the pilot episode of the variety show Master Key (TV series).[12] He was later confirmed as a fixed cast member.[13] His appearance on the show garnered positive reactions from media outlets, receiving praise for his skilful deception of his cast mates in the psychological game-style show to net the show's biggest win thus far.[14]

On the 29th September, it was announced that Seong-wu would be collaborating with singer, Huh Gak for his upcoming digital single.[15] He starred in the music video for the single, titled "Fool". The music video is slated for a 27th November release.[16]
