Stoned Jesus is a modern Ukrainian music band, founded by Igor Sidorenko in 2009. The band has toured Ukraine, Russia and Europe, has released three full-length albums and one mini-album since foundation. The band is into on-stage performance and had performed in 22 countries already. As a result they were invited to the United States, Great Britain and eventually they appeared at one of the world's largest rock festivals Hellfest-2016 - a success, which was not achieved by any Ukrainian performer before. Stoned Jesus became the first Ukrainian rock band to go on tour in South America. During a 8 day tour they performed in Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
History
editFirst demo was released in early 2009 when Igor Sidorenko decided to try his hand at heavier music. The genre of the project was finally formed with the release of second demo "Occult / Black Woods" at the end of summer same year. It was a monolithic stoner-doom in best traditions of Black Sabbath, Sleep, Electric Wizard.
The name of the project gives a humorous tribute to the existing doom-metal clichés, but music is more than serious. First line-up was formed in late 2009 while recording first album "First Communion" at the Kyiv studio "Happy Records Studio". The album was released on August 30, 2010 and received mostly positive reviews and brought the band some popularity in underground environment.
An old friend of Igor, Nick (bass guitar) and drummer Nikita (earlier Uprising Fomalhaut, now Ethereal Riffian) join Stoned Jesus on October 18, 2009 for their first performance. Later a permanent drummer Alex (formerly Coala Pascal and Easymuffin Midnight Melodies Collective) joins and the trio takes part in concerts in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Moscow, and St. Petersburg at the end of 2009 - early 2010.
Major changes in lineup happen in October 2010. According to Igor's blog, Nick and Alex leave the band because of lack of interest. "Stoned Jesus" is then enforced by former members of "Forever Wasted" drummer Vadim and bassist Sergey. With Igor as a leader the trio is working on a new material which was eventually recorded on January 30, 2011 on "Bambrafone Records". Three of six tracks were released on April 7, 2011 as "Stormy Monday" EP. The trio wrote material for its second full-length album in Moscow during the tour in August and September 2011 in Ukraine and Russia. Recording was done in the "Destroy the humanity studio" with additional recordings made in Kyiv. The band reveals the name and tracklist of its second full-length album on December 2, 2011 on their Facebook page. The album is called "Seven Thunders Roar", and consists of 5 songs with a total time of almost 50 minutes. The album was released in early 2012.
