I found this resource googling “Elected Transgender Official”. After googling it I saw “The Advocate”, which is a reliable newspaper resource. The source itself gives me some of the most prominent elected officials who were transgender in the United States. Like Stacie Laughton who is a New Hampshire House of Representatives, Althea Garrison a Massachusetts lawmaker, Stu Rasmussen a mayor of Silverton, Oregon, Michelle Bruce a councilwoman, Jessica Orsini an alderwoman, Victoria Kolakowski a superior court judge.

My second source comes from “Fox News”, which is a very popular resource in the United States for news. It talks about Kim Coco Iwamoto’s who is transgender, and her making history in the United States by becoming the highest-elected Transgender official. She is Hawaiian, and started off low, and swung her way through the ranks. Now she has a post on Hawaii’s state Board of Education.

Source 3: My third source comes from LGBT History Month, which tells all the accomplishments and progress transgenders have made throughout history. You can type in “elected officials”, and a list of elected transgender officials would appear. One of the Georgina Beyer, was the first transgender member of a national legislature. She was elected as a member of Parliament in New Zealand, which shows transgender are getting rights not only in the United States but also in other countries.

My fourth source was from the Huffington post, US edition which is also a reliable source. It talked about news outside the United States. In 2016, Anna Grodzka became Poland’s first openly transgender parliamentarian. It discussed how she secured a place in the Sejm. She even states the change as she says, “Today, Poland is changing. I am the proof along with Robert Biedron, a homosexual and the head of an anti-homophobia campaign who ran for office in Gdynia,”.

My fifth source come from a site that is the “most comprehensive on the web devoted to trans history and biography. On this website you can find most of the elected transgender officials not just in the United States, but any other country. For example, this source is about Christian Schenk, who was a physicist, before she became a member of the Bundestag of the United Germany in 1990 for the Independent Women’s Association. From 1994 to 2000, she was the head of the Feminist working group of the association mentioned before.

Finalizing My Topic

I decided to create my own page about Transgender Officials Around the World. Since it is new, I would add the region, country, date, name, and position of the Transgender Official that was elected. I don't plan to do a biography about each official; however I will link their name to their biography, and top it with pictures. I also plan on organizing the page to be easily accessible. My goal is to create an amazing resource as I am the creator of this article, and for it to not become a stub, and not difficult to edit, but just adding officials over time because of the elections.
