editThe Wikipedia database is currently locked, and is not accepting any edits or other modifications. This usually indicates that the server software is being upgraded, or routine database maintenance is underway.
The database lock is most likely temporary and will probably be lifted soon. We apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused. You can continue to browse Wikipedia articles while the database is locked.
The Wikimedia Foundation system administrator who locked the database offered this explanation: "5 min DB server maintenance..."

editDatabase error A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "Database::commit". MySQL returned error "2006: MySQL server has gone away (10.0.0.2)".
Not sure what causes this, but for me it was "fixed" by uninstalling mysql (rpm -e mysql), then re-installing. The database (/var/lib/mysql/) was simply left in place

Database error
editDatabase error From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A database error has occurred. We apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused. The most likely cause of this problem is a search or other operation that took too long. Possible reasons include:
A search where all words are in quotes. Try searching without the quotes initially or add a few more words outside the quotes to restrict the search; An exceptionally large personal watchlist (probably over 10,000 items); or Exceptionally heavy load on the database servers.
Technical details about this error:
Last attempted database query: (SQL query hidden)
Function: Revision::insertOn
MySQL error: 1290: The MySQL server is running with the --read-only option so it cannot execute this statement (10.0.6.42)

To avoid creating high database load, this query was aborted because the duration exceeded the limit. If you are reading many items at once, try doing multiple smaller operations instead.

Error
Our servers are currently under maintenance or experiencing a technical problem. Please try again in a few minutes.
See the error message at the bottom of this page for more information.
Original error: upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: connection failure, transport failure reason: delayed connect error: 111
So the top message seems a little mendacious. Indeed I was editing a few seconds before and a few seconds after the error.
