Richard Kenneth Styner

Richard Styner was born on June 12, 1967. He was a survivor at the age of eight of a plane crash that inspired his father, James K. Styner, to create the course Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) which transformed the treatment and care of trauma in the United States and around the world. This story was captured in the book The Light of The Moon by Randy Styner. He is a life-long learner and a great believer in the philosophy that education is the key to having a better future. He was educated at Nebraska Wesleyan University (Bachelors of Science, Biology), Brown University (Master of Arts, Teaching) and, most recently, California State University - Fullerton (Master of Science, Educational Technology). He has worked as a high school computer science and biology teacher, marketing director, marine biologist (Moss Landing Marine Labs), Environmental Molecular Toxicologist (University of California, Riverside), a handyman, a computer technician and a professional bingo caller.
