Music City Drum and Bugle Corps is a competitive junior drum and bugle corps based in Nashville, Tennessee.
History
editMusic City Drum and Bugle Corps, based in Nashville, Tennessee, was founded in 2008 with the aim of providing competitive opportunities for young musicians in the region. The corps made its official debut as a member of Drum Corps International (DCI) in 2009 in the Open Class division. The first few years were focused on building the corps’ presence and establishing a competitive foundation within DCI's structure.
By 2013, however, Music City faced significant financial challenges and had to pause its operations. This hiatus prompted the organization to focus on rebuilding, with a particular emphasis on securing additional funding and increasing community support. After a year away from competition, Music City returned to the field in 2014 and continued to develop its corps, expanding both its membership and performance capabilities.[1]
In 2018, Music City made the transition from Open Class to World Class, allowing it to compete in a more advanced category at DCI events. This move represented a significant milestone for the corps, marking its continued growth and improved competitive standing.[2]
Throughout its history, Music City has participated in a variety of performances across the United States and remains active in the drum corps community. While the corps has faced several obstacles, including the 2020 season cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has continued to compete in DCI’s World Class division and is involved in educational programs aimed at developing young musicians.[3]
