Gene Scher (born Eugene Scher), is a prominent American businesss executive and innovative leader who specializes in startups, reorganizations, and financing. He is the current President and Chief Operating Officer of Cascade Technologies Corp. which, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Spectral Molecular Imaging, Inc., operates a development-stage, medical imaging device company. The company develops optical diagnostic products that operate in conjunction with surgical and/or evaluation procedures in real time. Its spectral-optical-imaging technology might be used for early diagnoses of various diseases, such as Barrett’s esophagus, a condition caused by chronic acid reflux that can lead to esophageal cancer; lung cancer; and melanoma. The company was founded in 2004 and is based in Beverly Hills, California.

His official residence is Calabasas, California. He currently serves as the Sales and Marketing Director of Zortag, Inc.’s Leadership board.

Early Life and Education

Gene is the eldest of two children born to Masia and Bernie Scher. He attended De Witt Clinton in the Bronx, New York and then went on to receive a B.A. degree in Sociology from Hunter College and later an advanced  program in Extended Education and Guidance from Manhattan College.

Career

He started his career in 1977 with Jami Butler Mktg. where he served for nearly 4 years. In 1982 he founded Advanced Management Systems, ranked in the top five direct marketing firms in the U.S. in terms of market share by 1985 with clients including the British Royal Mint, Johnson and Johnson, Holiday Inn, Mastercard, Visa, Fingerhut and various insurance and financial institutions. His expertise was then focused on data analysis and modeling. He served as the President of Advanced Mangement Systems until he sold his interest in the company in 1989.

In 1992, he formed WG Direct which led strategic marketing campaigns for feature films. He worked with major film studio clientele such as Universal Studios and Warner Brothers as their marketing consultant. He was also a founding partner of NLS Inc. - which helped create Impel Trading Cards- later renamed SkyBox International . He served as NLS Inc’s President from 1992-1996 and licensed major properties for Skybox trading cards. NLS later partnered up with Donruss until it was sold in 1977. From 2000 to 2007 he served as president of Pioneer Mgmt., a list management and brokerage company. In February 2011 he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Gerova Financial Group, Ltd., an NYSE publicly listed financial service company incorporated under Bermuda law, and from March 2011 to June 2012, he served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. With the goal of resolving outstanding issues and revitalizing the company, Gene managed various legal, compliance, and corporate matters in addition to assets and interests in reinsurance, hedge funds, and corporate and legal loan lines. On June 21, 2011, Cascade Technologies Corp. publicly announced the appointment of Gene Scher as a Director and Chief Operating Officer of the company.

Personal Life

His family home is in Calabasas, CA where he lives with his wife, Gail. He has a daughter and a son as well as two grandchildren. He is involved in numerous charities and local committees.
