Longest Journey by Skateboard The longest journey by skateboard (alternatively Longest Skateboard Journey) refers to a world record maintained by Guinness World Records. The record consists of a continuous journey whereby, in principle, the only form of transport permitted is a skateboard.[1] Current official holder of this record is Robert Thomson (New Zealand).[2] Previous holders of this world record include Dave Cornthwaite (United Kingdom),[3] and a team made up of Jack Smith, Paul Dunn, Bob Denike and Gary Fluitt (America)[4].

The current official holder of the Guinness World Record for the Longest Journey by Skateboard is Robert Thomson.

Journey details

Robert Thomson skateboarded a total of 12,159km between the 24th of June, 2007 and 28th of September, 2008. His journey consisted of three legs: Europe (Switzerland to England; 1,541km), North America (across the United States from Key West, Florida to Los Angeles, California; 5,529km), and China (Khorgos, Xinjiang Province to Shanghai; 5,462km).[5]. Born on the 12th of June, 1980, Thomson began his journey at age 27. Thomson's Guinness World Record claim ID is 195888.[6] Thomson encourages further attempts on the record, and provides advice on how to break the record.[7]

Boardfree Australia

Between August 2006 and January 2007, British adventurer Dave Cornthwaite skateboarded 5,822km (3,618 miles) across Australia, from Perth to Brisbane. His route necessitated the crossing of the treacherous Nullabor Plain.[8] Cornthwaite was supported on the road by a team of 7 individuals, with one follow vehicle and one separate logistics vehicle.[9] The journey raised more than £20,000 for charity.[10]

1984 Across the United States

Jack Smith, Paul Dunn, Bob Denike, and Gary Fluitt broke the world skateboard distance record, skating across the United States in 26 days in 1984.[11]

First Trans-Continental skateboard journey (North America)

In 1976, Jack Smith, Jeff French, and Mike Filben skateboarded across the United States.[12]
