The Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust (IMPACT) is a joint, labor-management, non-profit trust formed under Section 302(c) (9) of Labor-Management Relations (Taft-Hartley) Act which includes contributing Local Unions of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers and their signatory contractors.

Origins

Ironworkers General President Joseph Hunt III announced the formation of the Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust at its annual officer's meeting in Hollywood, FL on February 23, 2003.

Overview

The primary mission of IMPACT is to expand job opportunities for union ironworkers and their signatory contractors. IMPACT develops, funds, and implements programs on a regional and national scale to address the challenges faced in the union ironworking industry.

Leadership

IMPACT is setup to be managed by equal parts labor and management. Ironworkers Union General President, Joseph Hunt III, serves as the labor co-chair and Ben Hur Construction Company president, Bill Brown, serves as the management co-chair. In additional to the two co-chairs, there are 10 trustees each representing both labor and management for a total of 22 trustees, 11 labor and 11 management.

Regional Advisory Boards

The U.S. is divided into 10 regions. Those regions are created along Ironworker District Council jurisdictional borders and represent general areas of the U.S. Each board is managed by a labor and management executive committee appointed by the IMPACT trustees.

The Regional Advisory Boards (RAB) serve as a forum for both Local Unions and contractors to identify and address existing problems.

National Substance Abuse Program

The goal of the IMPACT National Substance Abuse Program is to make union Ironworkers more employable and IMPACT contractors more competitive. In maintaining a national program, IMPACT saves contractors and customers valuable time and money along with reducing lost work time and creating a safer work environment.

The program utilizes an independent third party administrator to coordinate program testing and its random testing component. Program participant information is available through a 24-hour online verification system.

The program is recognized by the Building & Construction Trades Department, U.S. Steel, Reliant Energy, Toyota and General Motors.
