The Jelly Bean Incident was one of a number of incidents that overshadowed the second test between England and India at Trent Bridge in July 2007.

The match had been an ill tempered affair throughout[1]. On day two of the match Indian fast bowler Sreesanth had been fined 50% of his match fee[2] for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct having been found guilty by the match referee Ranjan Madugalle of shoulder barging England Captain Michael Vaughan. Sreesanth had previously bowled an unintentional beamer at Kevin Pietersen. England wicket keeper Matt Prior had been accused of extensivly sledging the Indian batsmen.

Events came to a head after a drinks interval on the fourth day. Alledgedly members of the England team positioned jelly beans on the pitch in order to distract the Indian batsman Zaheer Kahn. At the time there were some suggestions that the beans may have been flicked onto the pitch from the slip cordon although this was subsequently denied by England Captain Michael Vaughan[3].

Zaheer Kahn was infuriated by the incedent and he waved his bat towards England fielder Kevin Pietersen in an angry jesture.

The incident backfired badly on England when Kahn fired up by the events got to bowl a ferocious spell that took England apart and lead to an Indian victory.
