Hubert Westkemper was born on February 3rd, 1953 in Frankfurt, Germany. He graduated in 1981 from the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin as a Sound Engineer. Since the early eighties he has been living and working in Italy, currently in Rome. He has dedicated the main part of his work to sound design for theatre productions, working with several Italian and international directors like Gabriele Salvatores, Carlo Cecchi, Barberio Corsetti, Jérôme Savary, Robert Wilson, Peter Stein, and Luca Ronconi, with whom he has been constantly collaborating since 1986[1]. He has made contributions to important institutions including: La Scala Theatre and the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, the Venice Biennale, the Spoleto Festival and the Salzburg Festival.

In 2005 he won the prestigious Award of the National Association of Drama Critics and the UBU Award for the sound design of Electra by Hugo von Hofmannsthal[2].

In 2011 he was nominated for the David di Donatello Award, for the sound production of Noi credevamo by Mario Martone. He teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan and collaborates with Radio 3, RAI Italy and with the Italian Radio TV in Switzerland. He is co-founder and member of AGON Studio [3] for which he serves as audio consultant. His experiments have brought significant contributions[2] to Holophonics and 3D Sound.
