Stephens County Development Authority is located in Toccoa Georgia. A small city located approximately 90 miles northeast from Atlanta.The building my be found on Doyle Street , close to the Court house. It's main purpose is to recruit new businesses and provide space availability for construction as well as the assistance on existing business and new expansions. SCDA is run by a board of directors that actively support the development with new incentives and creative ideas for further tasks, as well as assisting with new projects and problem solving.

History

Stephens County Development Authority started in 1965 as a method of growth in Northeast Georgia. It was founded by the local Leaders of Stephens County and it gained official status in 1968 as well as hiring its first director. SCDA has open new doors to the Stephens County community as it influenced in creating new job opportunities by allowing other companies to be built. Through the years SCDA has helped to develop a growing community starting with the purchase of 135 acres of land to form the Stephens County Industrial Park and acquired the Camp Toccoa property in 1969. With the involvement of such projects the development issued its first revenue bonds in 1970 to fund the construction of a Phillips Fibers plant in the new industrial park.[1]

There was an eminent growth in the development done by the leaders of Stephens County that continued through the years under the guidance of the local govern. In 1979 the authority purchased 185 acres of land to build the Meadbrook Industrial Part which would later have an expansion in 1993. The SCDA’s first spec building was developed there in 1995.

Joint Development Authority (JDA)

In 1996 Stephens county joined Franklin County and Hart County's Industrial Building Authority in the Joint Development Authority. The main purpose of the JDA is to run projects in the Northeast part of Georgia while impacting 3 countries in the I-85 corridor.
