More 2000 AD stuff

edit

Good work there - the Nikolai Dante entry is looking pretty solid now - I'll dig out the information on the collections/trade paperbacks and drop them in. Norts and Southers need more of the same - more famous characters and what they did, some more background on them, their different styles o war and I was thinking it might be really handy to add a simple Black and White version of their insignia. For someone who can draw (i.e. not me ;) ) it shouldn't be too difficult just basic shapes and the like. If that seems a good idea and we don't any volunteers here then we could find someone to do it over on the 2000 AD forums. (Emperor 16:50, 4 August 2006 (UTC))

The Norts and Southers entries look really good now - nice work. The Volgan insignia? Hmm I'm thinking it might be a skull.
Future articles to work on? Friday (comics) and Nu-Earth could do with some more work - biography for the former and places and any other info for the latter. Other than that there are the Judge Dredd epics listed on that entry (with regrad to my note below I had a look around and there is a "Batman storylines" category so a "Judge Dredd storylines" has precedent) and then the various entries that are listed on the to do list on the 2000 AD talk page. (Emperor 16:29, 7 August 2006 (UTC))

Judge Dredd categories

edit

Looking down the list in the Judge Dredd category (and refering to previous discussion) it strikes me we need two categories: "Judge Dredd locations" and "Judge Dredd storylines". I had suggested "Mega Cities" for the former but there are things like Cursed Earth and Undercity (Judge Dredd) which wouldn't fit so comfortably in that category. Thoughts? (Emperor 01:44, 7 August 2006 (UTC))

Insignia

edit

I'll keep an eye on the discussion (it might have helped if you'd given a bit of background first ;) ) and if we can get some good large clear pictures of the insignia I'll see what I can mock up in Photoshop as it is better to go with an original thing rather than using copyright content all the time. (Emperor 16:32, 9 August 2006 (UTC))

OK thanks for the reference material - I went and grabbed some more just to make sure of the variability and I've knocked up the ones for the Norts and the Southers and they work pretty nicely (if I must say so myself). The Volgans one is going to be trickier and I'm going to have to search around for more examples so I can get it 100% as it is going to take a lot more fiddling it will take a while longer but that is a good start. Thanks again. (Emperor 20:10, 10 August 2006 (UTC))
I'm unsure why you reduced the size of the Nort insignia - it makes sense to have them both the same size and changing it to 160px seems rather arbitary (Emperor 21:39, 10 August 2006 (UTC))
The problem is that it all depends on one's screen resolution, the size of your browser window and the amount of text that is in the first paragraph. It looks fine to me for example - the best fix is adding more content to the start as changing the image size so it looks OK to you only really works for you and people with a similar setup. If, when the entry is fleshed out and it is still causing problems for the most common screen resolution then we can look into it. (Emperor 12:15, 11 August 2006 (UTC))
Yeah I'm trying to find a larger version of the insignia as there is little detail to work with. I'll keep nooddling away with it and see what I can come up with but I'm a bit snowed under (Emperor 16:19, 14 August 2006 (UTC))
Actually I just saw the cleaned up versions and that might be doable. (Emperor 16:24, 14 August 2006 (UTC))
The image you uploaded still looks pretty scuzzy (I also don't think you can use that license). Larger versions were posted on the 2000 AD forum and I made the following from them [1] and [2] - I think the larger one is too fuzzy but the first one should do. At least until someone comes up with something better. (Emperor 17:08, 14 August 2006 (UTC))

I have no text or images that Volgans occur in. Sorry. Anthony Appleyard 17:44, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

I'd need to dig out the relevant issues and don't really have the time for the next couple of weeks. However, as there has been a suggestion that the 2000 AD entry aim for Featured Article I was thinking that I start a thread on the 2000 AD forums covering 2000 AD at Wikipedia so we don't have to keep starting specific threads with requests for help. I'm busy now but will start it later this evening and throw the link in here. Keep up the good work. (Emperor 19:19, 30 August 2006 (UTC))

OK I started a general thread over on the 2000 AD forum [3] (Emperor 00:01, 31 August 2006 (UTC))
It might work OK for illustarting the piece although there may be other better covers I'd need to nose around. The insignia there is no larger than the one we have and when its shrunk down might not be noticeable. We can use them both though - possibly align the insignia to the right further down the page? (Emperor 17:36, 31 August 2006 (UTC))
Thanks for the email - as I say the actual insignia is no bigger than the one we have. The best option is to move the insignia down the page and upload the cover of EE #3 (I had a look around and its the best one) and the main image for that page. (Emperor 14:46, 1 September 2006 (UTC))
What main image? My point exactly. Indigo Prime, Really & Truly, Lobster Random, etc., etc. all have a main image illustrating the main characters and/or important features. The cover of EE #3 would make the best main image for the Volgns entry. The insignia can be mved down the page. (Emperor 15:37, 1 September 2006 (UTC))

Survey about merging Battlestar Galactica articles

edit

Hi, feel free to provide your input at the survey: [4] Dionyseus 07:39, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

That's actually not a bad idea. It'll give the readers more detailed info and show the difference between Drake and Marvel's Dracula.--The Scourge 21:20, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Tiny stubs

edit

I'm not sure tiny stubs like Banzai Battalion are useful. Can these be discussed in the main article? I'm turning these into redirects for now. Friday (talk) 16:01, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

I'll get this (and Go-Machine) sorted out but if you are creating stubs you really need to put something in there or there is no reason for it (other than anotch on a bed post of articles started). (Emperor 17:39, 31 August 2006 (UTC))

The VC's

edit

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll have a little look and see if I can do anything. Cheers! Smithy 23:26, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

I am a bit tied up at the moment but I suspect someone will come through for you on the Polity (Emperor 13:46, 22 September 2006 (UTC))

Robin Hood

edit

I never really see the point in creating microstubs that won't get updated for weeks or months. If there's enough information to create them, they'll be created eventually. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 14:07, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I agree with khaosworks on this one. Perhaps for the moment, anything particularly useful or interesting that comes up in the series can be added to the main pages on the original characters, as many of these already have notes about portrayals in film and television. 2000 AD Universe up for deletion

edit

2000 AD Universe has been put up for deletion - we'd appreciate input on the discussion to gain as balanced a view as possible (Emperor 22:01, 19 September 2006 (UTC))

Re: Time Crisis 4, et. al.

edit

Why on earth did you have to remove the content regarding about the characters in the game? You need to discuss the radical burnination first before you even burninate a section or two why you have to remove it. Otherwise, I have to really take it as being a vandalism violation. Considering that you removed the content without posting a reason why you had to remove it (please post a discussion why you had to do so), I'm gonna have to revert your burnination unless you post a comment why it's warranted. — Vesther (U * T/R * CTD) 01:45, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

P.S. This also applies to Time Crisis, Time Crisis II, Time Crisis 3, and Crisis Zone. It has came to my attention that you burninate without discussing first. Please discuss before you even burninate sections, or for the least, post a comment why you had to do so. Thanks.

A couple of answers

edit

1. Yes. As well as being a character he also had his own eponymous series [5] (granted it was one in an annual and one in Dice Man but it counts). Currently Torquemada (comics) redirects to the Nemesis entry but I'd say go for it and make it into its own entry.

2. I don't know. It didn't get a cover so I am unsure. It might need a scan from a relelvant page but I'm not sure anyone stuck out as being iconic - possibly something from the first page of the first instalment?

Hope that helps. Nice work on Chiaroscuro (2000 AD) by the way. (Emperor 14:15, 2 October 2006 (UTC))

Ahhhhhhhh I see you already started that entry. The problem is these micro-stubs with no information in. There is a case to be made for a standalone entry but it wasn't made by that stub. If you don't want to do a longer stub in one go, then develop it in your sandbox and then we can throw ideas in until it is looking more solid and then move it into the correct poisition. License tagging for Image:Torquemada2.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Torquemada2.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:10, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

OK I added the publication details but this: "I had to copy out the bio from the website in the article (with some slight rewording" makes me suspect that the bulk of it needs rewriting from scratch. The same happened with Hammerstein, also lifted from the same site - it all had to be removed so you may as well skip the hassle of removing and redoing by doing it right first time. There is no requirement to start an article in a near complete form just as long as the stub has information in it that it won't be removed immediately (as happened last ime). Also there is something wrong with the image you've uploaded (it has white squares all over it) - you can leave it out for now and we'll look around for the right one (I had a look on the 2000 AD site but have drawn a blank). (Emperor 19:45, 9 October 2006 (UTC))

I've looked around and think this is the best [6] by Kevin O'Neill (Emperor 19:51, 9 October 2006 (UTC))

edit

Thanks for the image Image:NortAlly.JPG. However, its usefulness is spoilt because it is badly out-of-focus. Anthony Appleyard 12:59, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Griffin

edit

I looked over the article and personally I didn't see anything wrong with it or really needs fixing up. Seems OK to me. Thunderbrand 14:37, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I probably would, since they seem pretty similar and that the other Griffin one is pretty much a stub. Thunderbrand 18:30, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Nort/Southers, also Judge Dredd

edit

1. Sure - I'd suggest just saying how Tor Cyan links into things. Any major information can go on the main Tor Cyan entry. 2. Any of the one's linked in from here is fine (as long as its a good solid stub).

Thanks for sorting out those other Judge Dredd entries. (Emperor 16:02, 18 October 2006 (UTC))

Rogue Trooper comics

edit
  • Have you got any old Rogue Trooper comics?
What were you wanting images of? Anthony Appleyard 16:14, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
I don't keep them at my address I'm afraid, but if there's something you need let me know and I'll sort it when I next look at them if no-one else does it first.Richard75 15:43, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Day One

edit

I haven't watched it yet, but I've never thought that a one-shot monster has ever deserved its own article. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 14:29, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, no clue. Like I said, I haven't watched it yet. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 14:41, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
What about the alien in Day One?--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 14:49, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps create List of Torchwood monsters and aliens and add it (shame it has no name, how about "Sex alien" as a description) along with the weevils?~ZytheTalk to me! 14:54, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Once again, I must register my unease at creating a list for every single one-shot monster — notability is not established. Stuff like this is best suited to individual story articles. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 15:05, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Villains

edit

No, because they still originated in Doctor Who. Besides which, it'd be a bitch to change all the links. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 11:21, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

In response to your request at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Films:

Gut feel - don't like the idea myself, but that doesn't stop you from raising it on the Wikiproject page to discuss it. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 10:51, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Dredd Continuity

edit

We'd need a source for that (although Logan is pretty reliable I'd like to see it in writing) - problem is even if John Wagner doesn't like it the whole Hammerstein thing is consistent through the various Pat Mills stories and Wagner's work doesn't really touch on that period (Origins may seek to address some of this although so far it doesn't contradcit it). If there is a source then it'd certainly be worth a mention. Worth running past Richard75 for his opinion. (Emperor 20:30, 31 October 2006 (UTC))

Dredd pics

edit

I have posted suggestions for images on the Otto Sump, PJ Maybe and Mechanismo talk pages (also Judge Dredd vs. Aliens, Banzai Battalion, Detective-Judge Armitage and Origins (Judge Dredd story) and beyond JD Stone Island (2000AD) and Harry Kipling). If we can get a consensus on them I'll do a batch of uploads. I'll have a nose through the others and post some suggestions.

Doomsday Dogs? I saw that and was unsure - I doubt it needs its own entry. Best consult with Richard75 on that one to be sure. (Emperor 19:51, 3 November 2006 (UTC))

I wouldn't really describe those as finished - PJ Maybe perhaps but there is plenty more that can be written about Torquemada and if Bint and Sardini only merit a paragraph then they may as well go back in the minor characters list. (Emperor 20:09, 3 November 2006 (UTC))
He was the villian in nearly every Nemesis story and had his own outtings so there is a lot - your Sandboxed version was 5 or 6 times the size of the current entry (it just unfortunately copy violated the main source - itself a very large page). So it can't be considered "finished" - it also doesn't mean you have to "finish" it. It is Wikipedia very little is ever really finished. (Emperor 14:17, 7 November 2006 (UTC))
The others? Most of them sill look a bit skimpy. The Orlok one in particular has room for plenty more content. Again its not necessarily down to you to "finish" them but if Blint and Sardini are finished then they seem a bit too short to justify entries but it is a grey area with those two. They are good starts. (Emperor 14:32, 7 November 2006 (UTC))
On the 3rd of Novemeber you said: "On a possibly unrelated subject, I have finished off the entries for the following: Torquemada (comics), PJ Maybe, Armon Gill, Oola Blint and Jacob Sardini." All I've subsequently said was I don't think some of them are finished (Torquemada and maybe Maybe) and if some of the others are finished then they possibly aren't big enough for their own entry (Blint and Sardini).
On the Satanus front there is a move afoot to mvoe this entry to a Satanus one: Dinosaurs in 2000 AD with some stuff being removed and some being jiggled around. So I'd hold off on doing anything there. (Emperor 20:13, 7 November 2006 (UTC))

Doomsday Dogs

edit

Since the Doomsday Dogs only appeared in the Father Earth story, there probably isn't much we can say about them that doesn't already belong in the Father Earth section, as they were only FE's henchmen. I would take out the red link (unless you think there is anything useful to say about them that would just get in the way if it was in the FE section).Richard75 19:27, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I agree - may be worth their own section in the List of Minor Characters but don't need the entry: Doomsday Dogs. There just isn't enough to justify their own entry. (Emperor 20:28, 7 November 2006 (UTC))

image licensing

edit

You have been adding to {{GFDL}} to images whose sources do not show GFDL licensing. Most of these you have been mixing a fair-use license (which is applicable, as far as I can tell) with this GFDL license (which doesn't seem to apply at all). I've reverted all the {{GFDL}}s you added assuming that you are mis-understanding the licensing nature of these tags.
