Activities

The Climate Emergency Action Coalition has been working to pass Climate Emergency Declarations in several towns on MDI, and their current goal is to get Hancock County to declare a Climate Emergency, before moving to the state level.

Bar Harbor

edit

CEAC was first formed to pass a Climate Emergency Declaration in the MDI town of Bar Harbor. After the group presented the Declaration to their local Town Council, it was passed 5-1 [1]. Following the advice of the Town Council, CEAC then hosted a series of stakeholder meetings to gauge community buy-in on the creation of a Town Task Force on Climate. In January of 2020, CEAC went back to the Bar Harbor Town Council and asked them to form a Town Task Force, the creation of which was approved [2].

In March of 2020, the Climate Emergency Task Force appointees were finalized and the first meeting was held on June 22nd. Sirohi Kumar, a member of CEAC, currently serves as the Youth Representative on the Task Force.
