Julia Stemberger (born 29 January 1965) is an austrian actress.

early life

Julia Stemberger was born in Vienna, Austria to the actress Christa Schwertsik and the medical doctor Heinrich Stemberger. Her younger Sister Katharina Stemberger also became a renown actress.

Besides the acting classes with Dorothea Neff and Eva Zilcher she also lerned singing ballet- and jazzdancingand playing flutes and the piano.

Film and TV

Just after her Matura aged 19 she asumed the lead rolle in her first Film Herzklopfen in 1984. The film was very succesful and yielded her a large public attention. She played in several German Film productions of for instance Xaver Schwarzenberger and also the TV Series „Die Stein“ and 11e Haus

Theater

In Theater her first sucess was as Paul in Der Raub der Sabinerinnen at the Wiener Volkstheater (1986 to 1987). In the Next year she played in Stephan Bruckmeiers adaption of Wolfgang Bauers Magic Afternoon as well as The Youth in Der Bauer als Millionär by Jürgen Flimm at the Salzburger Festspiele. She than played in several plays by Jürgen Flimm and in Peter Zadeks adaption of The Merchant of Venice the first time at the Burgtheater of Vienna.

She also starred in George Taboris adaption of Othelloand again in „Antonius und Cleopatra“ from Peter Stein at the Salzburger Festspiele as well as in „My Fair Lady“ at the Wiener Volksoper and other Theaters in Vienna, Hamburg and Munich.Im Frühjahr 2009 war sie im Rock-Musical „Frühlings Erwachen“ im Wiener Ronacher zu sehen.

Personal Life

In 1997 she maried the Geiger Christian Altenburger with whom she has a Daughter. From 1999 to 2005 they had the musical and artistic stewardship of the Mondseetage a festival for Kammermusik taking place in the austrian Mondsee. In 2007 they were divorced.[1]

Neben ihrer Tätigkeit als Theater- und Filmschauspielerin gestaltet Stemberger seit einigen Jahren zusammen mit den Ensembles Die österreichischen Salonisten und dem Streichquartett Sonare Bühnenprogramme, in denen sie vor allem Humoristisches aus den Werken von Schriftstellern wie Alfred Polgar, Karl Kraus, Anton Kuh, Isabel Allende, Wladimir Kaminer, Umberto Eco und anderen liest.[2]
