Dr. Syed Mir Mohammad Shah (1938-present) completed his Doctorate at University of Liverpool-England becoming the first Pakistani born person to complete a doctorate in Computer Science.
Early Life and Education
editDr. Syed Mir Mohammad Shah was born in Lakhi Ghulam Shah, Sindh, Pakistan of Shikarpur District. Lakhi Ghulam Shah was named after Dr. Syed Mir Mohammad Shah's grandfather, Ghulam Shah. His father, Hakim Ali Shah, was a famous Hakeem which is a doctor who uses herbs to practice medicine. Hakim Ali Shah had 8 children (6 male, 2 female) of whom Dr. Syed Mir Mohammad Shah was the 4th born.
Dr. Shah started his primary education at Lakhi Ghulam Shah in Sindhi medium.
Dr. Shah became a Professor at Sind University Engineering College Jamshoro/Nawabash. He was a recipient of a University scholarship which allowed him to study Computer Science at the University of England at Liverpool in 1971. Upon completion of his Masters and Doctorate, Dr. Shah became the first Pakistani born person to complete a doctorate in Computer Science.
Career
editIn 1982, Dr. Shah joined Pakistan International Airlines as a General Manager. Being the head of the information system department, Dr. Shah was successful in the automation of various systems of the airline. He developed computer systems for Reservation/Ticketing, Departure control, Engineering Maintenance, Inventory, Revenue Accounting, Crew Management, and Decision support System. These systems would later be sold to other airlines.
Current
editDr. Shah has 7 children located around the world. He is currently involved with a number of Universities doing various academic activities such as giving lectures. In addition, Dr. Shah is involved in Software Consulting with various companies. After retirement, Dr. Shah followed his lifelong interest in agriculture by growing crops in his hometown, Lakhi Ghulam Shah.
