Shane Mason is co-star of the TLC reality series King of the Crown. Shane was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, but currently resides in Columbia, South Carolina. Born William Shane Arrington, Shane changed his last name to Mason for Family reasons.

Shane grew in Florence, South Carolina for most of his childhood. But also lived briefly in Columbia, South Carolina and Chesapeake, Virginia as a child. While living in Columbia, South Carolina, Shane attended the Tri-District Performing Arts Consortium on full-scholarship. It was during this period that Shane became interested in theatre and music, which continued through high school and college. Shane attended Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, orginally majoring in Broadcast Journalism, but subsquently changing his major to Biology. Upon leaving Clemson University in 1999, Shane obtained a degree in Nuclear Medicine. Shane traveled extensively for several years in this field. Shane then settled permanently in Columbia, South Carolina in 2006.

It was at this time that Shane crossed paths with Cyrus Frakes, owner and operator of Gowns and Crowns, LLC, a pageant preparatory business, known nationally for its distinguished list of State and National pageant winners. Winners include Amanda Pennekamp, Lacie Lybrand, Caitlyn Upton, and Crystal Garrett. Cyrus Frakes asked Shane to join his team as Interview Coach and assistant.

In 2008, Cyrus Frakes was approached by a Hollywood production to form a docu-drama/reality series about his business. In August of 2008 a "sizzle" was filmed by Five/Five productions. Five/Five is also responsible for The Millionaire Matchmaker, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-list, and Sunset Tan. The "sizzle" was pitched to several networks and was picked up by TLC/Discovery studios. Production of the show began in May of 2009 and continued through November 2009.

The pilot orginally airded September 30th, 2009 on TLC. The pilot episode featured Caitlyn Upton, former Miss Teen South Carolina USA 2007. Upton's response to her on-stage question at Miss Teen USA caused a Youtube sensation, receiving millions on hits and catapulting her into the national spotlight. Caitlyn has since gone on to star in numerous music videos and commercials, and has just completed filming for the Amazing Race. In the pilot Cyrus convinces Caitlyn to do another pageant, as she hadn't done another since Teen USA. Much of the show focuses on preparing her for the Carolina Queen pageant, and Shane tweaking her interviewing skills and preparing for the on-stage question.

The show ran 6 episodes through mid November. The show has filmed 6 additional episodes scheduled for airing in the Spring 2010 on TLC. Shane has gained a substanial following because of his wise-cracks and one-liners, known as Shanism's to his fans. Amanda Pennekamp
