Schmoovy Schmoov Biography
The artist known as Schmoovy Schmoov born Edward Earl Cook was recruited to join a group called Digital Underground in early 1991 and is responsible for the Platinum album title track Sex Packets which dubbed him the appointed alter ego as “Dr. Edward Earl Cook” the creator and innovator of the wildly popular underground sex psychotherapy and fantasy hallucinogen drug “Sex Packets”. This of course was the doctor’s brain child and would prove to help promote and create the debut product advertisement known from Digital Underground.
Born in Bessemer, Ala. Schmoovy Schmoov was exposed to the southern style of blues and gospel music before he played any musical instruments. With this being the two primary influences at an early age, it would be the catalyst for the artist to be. Raised and educated in Northern California, developing a musical aptitude at a very early age for the brass and drum instruments, he matured from studying classical and heavy jazz music, to transition into studying and playing the popular R&B and Funk styles of music that his surroundings so dictated through the popular radio bands of the 70s and 80s. This would be the chord that would bring him into the Digital Underground family and recordings.
As a part of Digital’s first album which gain momentum and reached double platinum sales status; Schmoovy Schmoov appeared on the group’s second album singing accompaniment with George Clinton on the title track Sons of the P. This would be an honor and baptism for Schmoovy, as his primary hero in music at the time being G. Clinton had made monumental achievements in music and this was truely a dream and milestone.
On Digital’s third and fourth project releases, Schmoovy would learn more of his own personal styling and go on to form his own Funk Rock band “Heaven” which was received well in the S.F. bay area where the group tested the project. The group was formed around Schmoovy singing lead vocals and song writing. The heavy funk influence of the project was the door that presented the opportunity to collaborate with greats such as George Clinton and Mike Hampton. The group experienced a fatal loss with the death of Heaven’s lead guitarist. The project was shelved and is still thought of as a baby that just left home and someday will return.
