SMARTwheel is a US based automotive interface and driver focus startup founded in 2013 by TJ Evarts. The company specializes in making electronic aftermarket covers for steering wheels to improve driver performance and safety over time.
SMARTwheel was started as a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) project as part of the FIRST program. After achieving a victory at the 2010 FLL World Festival, SMARTwheel was recognized by top traffic safety officials and 2010 US President, Barack Obama, as a revolutionary solution to distracted driving. The product was featured in Inventor's Digest, Popular Mechanics, and eventually ABC's reality show "Shark Tank" in 2013.
After the show, they incorporated and became SMARTwheel Inc. to complete development of their flagship product. Most recently, SMARTwheel was a winner of the Vehicle Intelligence Innovation Award in January of 2016 by the Consumer Technology Association.
