The golden wattle, (Acacia pycnantha), is the official floral emblem of Australia. It was proclaimed as official in 1988 when Australia marked a bicentenary of the arrival of the First Fleet, lead by Captain Arthur Phillip.[1] Golden wattle first featured in the Commonwealth coat of arms when King George V redesigned it in a Royal Warrant in 1912.[2]
