Scalr is an open source web based cloud computing management platform for managing cloud infrastructure from Amazon Web Services. The project was started in April 2008 by Intridea[1] to provide scalable infrastructure for MediaPlug. It is now maintained at Google Code[2]. Scalr provides, according to one source[3], "90% of the features, at 10% of the price" of main competitor RightScale.
Scalr received favorable reviews since the code was first made freely available under the GPL v2 license, including TechCrunch[4], HighScalability[5], the official AWS blog[6], and CNet[7], as well as private blogs[8][9].
Scalr is available as a pay service since mid-2008 at Scalr.net. The special beta pricing of $50/month for this service ended August 15th, and is now $99/month[10].
