Doremi
editHere's the original notes Barney Bubbles wrote for the concept behind Doremi/Space Ritual which I hope sheds some light on what he was up to. They are accompanied by a complex geometric chart showing band members, music notes, colours, zodiac signs and symbols. Of course, I'm not going to comment on the accuracy of any of his theories, but it sounds like good fun. Drwhawkfan 14:22, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
In retrospect, I think I was too hasty in reverting your change, perhaps I just recoiled at the mention of "The Sound of Music". That section does need expanding upon though, to convey Bubbles' philosophy of Doremi/Space Ritual to the reader. Drwhawkfan 15:42, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
The basic principle for the Starship and the Space Ritual is based on the Pythagorean concept of sound. Briefly, this conceived the Universe to be an immense monochord, with it's single string stretched between absolute spirit and at its lowest end - absolute matter. Along this string were positioned the planets of our solar system. Each of these spheres as it rushed through space was believed to sound a certain tone caused by its continuous displacement of the ether. These intervals and harmonies are called "The Sound of the Spheres". The interval between Earth and the fixed stars being the most perfect harmonic interval. The musical intervals do not coincide with the reality of their actual positions but the following arrangement is generally accepted for the musical intervals
- Earth to Moon - one tone
- Moon to Mercury - one half tone
- Mercury to Venus - one half tone
- Venus to Sun - one and a half tones
- Sun to Mars - one tone
- Mars to Jupiter - one half tone
- Jupiter to Saturn - one half tone
The sum of these intervals equals the six whole tones of the octave. The octave or harmonic scale contains sounds within its own frequency - these sounds ranged by increasing sharpness are called 'notes' - Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do.
When the colours of the spectrum are added to the musical notes and their respective planets we end up with the following analogies:
- Do - Mars - red
- Re - Sun - orange
- Mi - Mercury - yellow
- Fa - Saturn - green
- Sol - Jupiter - blue
- La - Venus - Indigo
- Ti - Moon - violet
- Spaceship Hawkwind
By drawing this diagram on this page and positing the band and equipment in their normal line up we arrive at this solution:
- Del and Bob - Jupiter/Mars/Sun
- Dave and Dik Mik - Sun/Mars
- Nik and Lemmy - Sun/Venus/Mercury
- Simon - Moon/Earth
- Dancers - Jupiter/Saturn/Stars
Assuming the stage area to be our Solar System, the audience becomes space outside our system and the perimeters of the stage become near space. Near space being divided into our zodiac system. This system provides a sympathetic feedback both in colour, shape and invisible geometry. The music can awaken the Starship, but its fuel must be audience/Hawkwind mind energy. We were born to go. Bless all who sail in her.
To break away from our system and enter deep space will need a booster. Each Musicnaut comes under and controls a sphere of influence. To boost this, each person feeds into a computer/lifepack while at the same time, the lifepack is scanning for information and broadcasting the Musicnauts amplified impulses. Each sensor will be placed in its appropriate 'space' situation.
Around the immediate area of sensors are light poles. One for each zodiacal sign, an inner space (four elements) and an infinite outer space. As these are the borders of near/outer space, they will be coloured to their appropriate element:
- Earth - white
- Air - green
- Fire - red
- Water - blue
- Inner/Outer - purple
Willie Wagtail
editHi Secret Squïrrel. Your being bold is not a problem, and I can understand your reasoning. I would agree that until the spelling became standardised there would have been various ways of writing the name, with and without hyphens etc. Generally the spelling guide now used for Aussie bird names is "The Taxonomy and Species of Birds in Australia and its Territories" by Christidis & Boles, published 1994 as RAOU Monograph 2. In answer to your questions:
Capitalisation: The convention for spelling the common names of birds on Wikipedia is to capitalise them when referring to particular species, while not capitalising groups of species, e.g. 'wagtails' is correct for, say, multispecies groups such as Rhipidura - so you would write "the Rhipidura wagtails". This does not necessarily apply to all animals - I believe that some other groups of animals, as well as plants, do not follow this convention. For more info on this see Wikipedia:WikiProject Birds. If you have a particular interest in birds you might like to join the project. I would agree with you about not captalising 'domestic cat'.
Taxonomy: I am using "The Directory of Australian Birds - Passerines" (1999) by Schodde and Mason as the best current published source. This does have three subspecies for R. leucophrys but keeps the genus in the Dicruridae. However, it is possible that this has been superceded by later work. I do note, however, that Vol.7 of the Handbook of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic Birds (2006) keeps Rhipidura in the Dicruridae, though it is an encyclopedia rather than an original research paper. If you have a good recent published source that raises Rhipidura to family level, feel free to use that when editing. Cheers. Maias 04:32, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

editHi Firs, thx for removing that extraneous "'"! It's a bit of a personal bugbear of mine, too. I can only plead that I had gotten sidetracked there and wanted to quickly fix up the unwieldy wording and get back to what I was doing. Mea culpa. Secret Squïrrel 08:56, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Secret,
- No worries; it could happen to anyone (and apparently does). I usually spend 1 day a week using AWB to remove incorrect apostrophes. I do 500-1000 a week. There will come a day when I accidentally use an apostrophe incorrectly on Wikipedia, and I'll never hear the end of it! ;) Best wishes and happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 15:56, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Apostrophe abuse on Equijubus
editOops. I did it again! Thx for fixing that and other little bits. I didn't wl type species because type was already. However, type went to a disamb page which I have now corrected to Biological type. I've left type species as is.
I don't have anywhere near as much time as I'd like to have available for Wiki Work (so I tend to be a gnome) but I might see if any of the other dino stubs can be improved. Secret Squïrrel 05:09, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- No worries; I fix apostrophes all the time. :) I know what you mean about not having enough time for Wiki. However, if you do get time, there are nearly a thousand articles which could use some clean-up/expanding/etc. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 05:21, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- Anything you can add to these tiny articles will certainly help, Secret! :) (Just remember nomina nuda don't get taxoboxes, as they haven't been formally described yet). If you have a specific question, you can ask on the WikiProject Dinosaurs talk page, or on the individual talk page of each article, but I'd recommend on the main dinosaurs page because it's on everyone's watchlist and you may get a response more quickly. As an aside, I'd also recommend fixing your new signature, as it doesn't direct users to your user or talk page. :) Firsfron of Ronchester 07:35, 28 May 2007 (UTC). Dammit. Thx for that. Auroraceratops
editIf I remember it correctly, I was paraphrasing the paper I used as reference and the photo and schematics of the skull and jaw aren't particularly nitid to ascertain the type of ornamentation of the fangs.
http://www.sinofossa.org/sinosaur/image/auroraceratops-skull.jpg
I'll be sure to check the pertinent paper when I get home, though I'm not too sure "ornamented" is that much of a technical term ;-) Dracontes 13:14, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

editNot a problem, after rereading I agree that as it stood it was ambiguous. I've clarified it a bit more now. Kind regards, Benea (talk) 09:37, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Your sig
editHi tanks for changing the rating on Ferdinand Eisenstein. When replying on on WP:WPM I noticed that my comment had your font applied [1]. It looks like there of a missing </font> tag at the end of your sig. --Salix alba (talk) 12:26, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- I was just checking to see if you were awake. Ok, I missed the last </font> when I copied and pasted it. Better go fix up the others. Thx.
I also saw your comment on WPM. You are always free to change math project ratings if you think they are inaccurate. The only exceptions are FA-Class, GA-Class, and A-Class, which have to go through an approval process. If someone disagrees with a change you made, they will contact you and you two can discuss it. But usually changes are noncontroversial. — Carl (CBM · talk) 15:02, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Marsupial Lion
editA recent edit war on concerning a page you recently edited (but may not have been involved with the war) is being resolved via a poll. If you have an opinion, please voice it now by voting at Talk:Thylacoleonidae. Bob the Wikipedian (talk) 20:03, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- As I also mentioned to T.carnifex, if you are not going to bother taking the time to read the arguments provided then you should not have cast your vote. As I also mentioned to him, I am not saying this to offend you I am just going by what I have read from the guidlines. I am curious though from your comment "Despite what some have said, capitalisation does alter the meaning of words". Who are you referring to? Be very careful with your reply too, because I already know who you are referring to. Cazique (talk) 05:41, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi, Not a problem :). I thought it was odd you gave the link to the botanical code! It would be an interesting case of convergence, a large lizard-like shrub that eats people... Mark t young (talk) 10:38, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
I See What You Mean
editHey, I noticed you pretty well left it alone. Probably a good choice, something I'll think about doing if I find myself in a similar position again. Thanks for the advice/support. T.carnifex (talk) 08:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, you two are buddies in your failure to reply to comments you know point out that you are wrong. Yes, I agree with you both, it is better to not answer what I say to stop yourselves from digging a bigger hole. Cazique (talk) 14:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Concerning Category:Marsupial Lions
editJust to let you know, we made Category:Marsupial Lions to hold all of the marsupial lion species. That way, we don't need to add the categories of diprodonts or prehistoric marsupials, what with marsupial lion being placed with Category:Prehistoric Diprotodonts--Mr Fink (talk) 04:21, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Then, should we put the category "Prehistoric Diprotodonts" back in for the time being?--Mr Fink (talk) 04:44, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Cazique
editUh-oh Firs, I think you may have stepped in something! Cazique has been annoying a number of editors for a week now and despite being blocked twice for edit-warring on the same article, refuses to desist their destructive behaviour. Just thought I'd give you a heads-up. Cheers, Secret Squïrrel 07:04, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- I am aware of the Admin noticeboard entry about Cazique and his block log. But try not to inflame the situation with terms like "troll" and "smelly"; they'll only cause further conflict. Firsfron of Ronchester 07:11, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Point taken re the second term (went to fix but you had beaten me to it) but I tend to go with "if someone exhibits troll-like behaviour then they are, by definition, a troll". Perhaps not overly helpful to the issue to state that but this person has behaved quite unpleasantly for some time now, and is not above making spurious threats towards other responsible editors. Thanks, Secret Squïrrel 07:21, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- No worries. Firsfron of Ronchester 07:16, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Firsfron, Secret Squirrel is clearly a troll and a bully (just have a look at the sprays it left on talk pages and edit summaries). I recommend not engaging it. If its unacceptable behaviour continues, I will report it. Cazique (talk) 07:32, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

editHey, thanks for looking after my talk page! I try and disentangle myself from a particularly nasty revert war, and not only do I get sucked back in, but I come back to see a revert war has taken place on my talk page and archive! I have no idea how it escalated to this. Anyway, to more important matters the marsupial lion category. I'll take a look at it and get back to all concerned. Cheers again! You're right apologies; I read it as it was saying he was 19 now and won the Italian Grand Prix at 21. Hopefully you can see that silly reasoning now! Thanks again, Caulde 17:29, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Hiya SS,
Nice work on Aerosteon! What a great beginning; nicely done! :) Firsfron of Ronchester 05:19, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Candis
editHi, IMDB isn't a reliable source for anything seen as controversial and the other source doesn't say what Cayne's birth name was. Per WP:BLP we have higher standards for including information that can be seen as negative. -- Banjeboi 00:03, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- My apologies, I did see it in the the other ref now, not sure how I missed that. IMDB is ok as a ref but using it to source LGBT issues isn't supported as far as I'm aware. And most LGBT issues are considered controversial even if you or are don't see them as such. I think IMDB corrects problems when they are brought up but it does seem like anyone can edit there by submitting and the staff does make mistakes in approving material. In any case I support re-adding it now and apologize for missing that the first time. -- Banjeboi 03:57, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
