Definition

‘MT’ is abbreviation of ‘Membership training’ and it is travel for increasing the level of closeness between people in organization, almost university. In university, students are go MT by unit of maior, grade, club and so on. Mostly, it take place on March or April. There are motion that alternating ‘MT’ to ‘Moggoji’ in pure korean words, but there is opnion that ‘Moggoji’ can’t explain whole mean of ‘MT’. Mt is one of the campus events boosts freshmen’s expectations. MT is designed to help freshmen get used to campus life. Staying at resort which are in the woods or along a river for a day or two. Students can know about friends and seniors. They build rapport with each other and exchange information about academic schedules assignments and tests. It is time to break the ice between newbies. MTs are scheduled at the beginning of the year. MTs conclude several types. "Sae-teo" is MT for helping freshmen learn the basics of campus life. Freshmen meet first time in here. It open before lecture begin. It focus on close relationships among members. "OT" is orientation for people who belong to same department of the broader college-wide. It emphasize on conveying necessary information about campus life. For example, registration for courses, introduction of professors, classes and annual events. Students hold another type of activity named "Nonghwal". It is composed with voluteers who want to help Korea's rural communities during summer vacation. Above these official MTs, students organize unofficial Mts. It can be planned by campus clubs. Students want to make cluster of like-minded friends quickly. MTs are best fast route to be familiar.

Sequences of MT

Students go to destination with bus chartered by Departmental student representative or transportation. Student leaders shop to set up MT budget, recruit participants, arrange for recreation events and make reservations. For the student union, the most difficulty is to set up a creative program because MT platform repeat every year. Participants pay fees to finance event. After arriving, student union prepare for dinner and other students talk with professor or play games. Mainly, dinner menu is barbaque. Students sit round and have dinner with some alchol. After dinner, student union arrange for group game to make people familiar. The speed is accelerated by drinking parties and group games. Usually, quiz game, dressing up as a women, game as couple are proceed. Sometimes, student leaders invite professional singers to make stage plentiful. They make performances to fire up the atmosphere. They prepare for familiar time named "Moonlight dating". Students randomly choose boys and girls and fulfill random mission under the moonlight outside of the resort. At midnight, students sit round again and talk to each other. It is time to promote good friendship. Some students who are tired go to bad and other students chat affectionately overnight. Early next day, student union prepare meal with soup like Ramen or Curry. Students who is on duty, wash up the dishes and others take a rest. After packing up individual bag, everyone gather and take photo. Then, ride on bus or transportation to go back school. It’s end of official MT and then some students who want to play more gather again.

Eastern of seoul and nearby

- Gapyeoung-goon / Nearby Gang-chon station / Paju Limjin-gak / Po-cheun / Gwa cheoun Chung-gye mountain

Eastern of Gyeong-gi do

 - Chung-cheong do Ahn myeoun do / Dae chun / Dae bu island, Je bu island / Yong-in Gogiri vally / Everland (amusement park &Resort)

Gang-won do

- Gang-reung si , Sok cho si (vallies located at Yang-gu goon, In je goon, Hong cheun goon )

Issues about MT

There are issues related with MT that senior students are mistreat to junior students pretext of ‘tighten discipline’.

일부 대학 신입생 환영회 행사에서 선배가 후배에게 오물 섞인 막걸리를 뿌리거나 성추행을 하는 등 일탈(逸脫)이 심해지자 교육 당국이 제재에 나섰다. 교육부는 12일 ‘대학 내 건전한 집단 활동 운영 대책’을 내고 “앞으로 대학 행사에서 가혹행위·성희롱 같은 인권침해가 발생할 경우 가해 학생은 물론 담당교수까지 책임지도록 처벌을 강화하겠다”고 밝혔다.그러나 소수 대학생의 일탈에 정부가 나서 가이드 라인을 만들고 일일이 규제하는 것은 지나치다는 비판이 나온다. 자신의 행동에 책임을 져야 하는 대학생들 행동에 교수가 연대 책임을 지게 하는 것은 전형적인 ‘규제 만능주의’ ‘탁상행정’이란 것이다.교육부 대책에 따르면 앞으로 대학 동아리나 학생회 활동, 학과 축제, MT 등 각종 행사에는 행사를 주관하는 학생과 함께 교수가 반드시 책임자로 지정된다. 만약 행사에서 인권침해 사고가 발생할 경우 책임자에게 연대 책임을 물을 수 있도록 한 것이다. 대학본부는 학교 행사에서 사고가 발생할 경우 책임자를 징계하고 행사 중지와 폐쇄, 재정 지원 중단 등 조치를 취할 수 있다. 대학은 이 같은 내용이 포함된 학칙을 개정해 올 하반기부터는 시행하라고 교육부는 밝혔다.
