Now retired, Santmire began his career as a Lutheran minister at University Lutheran Church (Harvard) in the 1960s. He went on to be Chaplain at Wellesley College from [year] to [year]. Following his time at Wellesley, he was Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Hartford, CT. After leaving Grace in 1994[1], he served at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Ohio.
