Protecting a Heaven on Earth

The Western ghats

The Western ghats is a mountain range that covers an area of 160,000 km2 (62,000 sq mi) in a stretch of 1,600 km (990 mi) parallel to the western coast of the Indian peninsula, traversing the states of Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the eight hotspots of biological diversity in the world. This area is one of the world's ten "hottest biodiversity hotspots". The biodiversity found here rivals that of the Amazon Rainforest. Yes, this is a literal heaven for several plant and animal species. Now this heaven on earth is being destroyed by factors such as Poaching, Deforestation, Forest fires, Invasion of alien species and Dangers to native tribes. During the time taken by you to read this, hundreds of acres are being cleared to be used for tea cultivations and tourist hotels. We need to stop this! Contribute on the Western ghats article in Wikipedia and if you can please donate to the Forest department of India to help preserve this sacred place.
