Making Minor Edits

edit

Citation Templates When I see an error in a citation, sometimes I can fix the error. Often, the date is the only error. Apparently, some people never proofread their own edits. If the url needs correction, I can often find the proper url by searching the web with the author and title given in the citation. http addresses If someone just leaves an edit with only an http address, that makes it difficult to read. By adding brackets and a title, I can clarify the reference. public domain books By adding a link to a public domain book, readers have a direct link to the book being referenced. Usually, I link to books at either Google Books or the Internet Archive. When trying to link to a multi-volume work, Google Books will often have only the first volume. By clicking on the "more editions" button, often the additional volumes will appear in a list, although some of the volumes may be from later reprint editions. A four-volume work may later be reprinted in a two-volume work, so I have to be careful to match the volumes as to publishing date, so as to be sure to include the complete works. For books in non-English languages, I use Google Translate to make sure that I have the right book titles. Google Translate covers the main languages, some of the more obscure languages have no coverage.
