The Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama is an independant musical theatre college based in Carlton in Nottingham, England. The college was founded in 1962 by Fellow and Major Examiner of the International Dance Teachers Association, Frances Clayton.[1]
Overview
editCommonly refered to as MADD college, the Midlands Academy provides specialist vocational training at further education level in performing arts. Students can start as young as 16 but can enlist at any age upwards from that. The college specialises in Musical Theatre training and has a history of feeding artists into the West End, but many students discover careers in commercial dance, dance companies, television, music and film.[2]
Training
editAreas of study include tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, commercial, and contemporary dance. Plus lessons in singing repertoire and technique, acting for theatre or television, and stage combat.

1 year Foundation Course
These courses are acredited by The Council for Dance Training and Education. The college is affiliated to the National Union of Students and registered for Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA).The college is also registered with the LSC for career developement loans. The Midlands Academy is also a registered charity (Number 1118761).
The college sings at the Royal Centre during the christmas season, annualy produces a choral show, and then a dance show at the Sandfield Theatre, and a summer showcase at the Palace Theatre, Mansfield.
