The Syro Malabar Community of Chembur existed right from the beginning of the Eparchy of Kalyan. St. Joseph’s Parish Chembur came into existence in August 2006 at the Vincentian Centre 12th Road Chembur. The inauguration of the parish was conducted on 2nd October 2006 in the presence of Mar Thomas Elavanal and Rev Fr Jose Vettiyankal VC, Provincial Superior Kottayam, Rev Fr George Karottukizhakkel was the first parish priest of the Church. Mr KT Johnson and Mr PA Vincent have taken initiative to organize the people of the parish.
Even before the erection of the parish, Diocese of Kalyan has taken special care for the spiritual needs of the people by appointing priests. Rev. Fr. Jacob Porathur, Rev. Fr. Paul Madan, Rev. Fr. Jose Vallamkodu, Rev. Fr. Jose Vattakuzhy, Rev. Fr. Joy Punnakuzhy, Rev. Fr. Jovy Kundukulangara, Rev. Fr. Davis Chirayath, Rev. Fr. Sunil Kadaparambil, Rev. Fr. Sheen Chitattukara, Rev. Fr. Shaibu Paul, Rev. Fr. George Vattamattam, Rev. Fr. Thomas Thoyalil VC looked after the spiritual needs of the faithful before the formation of the parish.
St Joseph’s Parish consists of 74 families residing in Subhash Nagar, St. Anthony's Road, Ghatla, Central Avenue Road, Postal Colony and Acharya Marg.
Pious associations like Pithruvedi, Mathrusangam, Youth, Choir, Altar Servers, are actively functioning in the parish.
Rev. Fr. Thomas Maliackal VC is the current parish priest.
