On 10 August 1924, groups of students were talking amongst themselves near the Union Hall of Allahabad University. The topic of their conversation was the then Quit India Movement. The effect of Mahatma Gandhi's announcement of Quit India Movement started from Mumbai and reached Delhi, Patna, Varanasi and now Allahabad. Now the students of Allahabad University were making a strategy to spread this movement in Allahabad. A meeting of all the students of the university was called at the Student Union Building. Because the people of Nehru family were captured in the non-cooperation movement. So the students decided to raise the voice of freedom.
On the morning of 12 August, a crowd of students started gathering in front of Allahabad University. The team of students of Allahabad University was led by Nayan Tara Sehgal and the team of students was led by Lal Padmadhar. In front of the university, a procession took place with slogans like Inqulab Zindabad, Angrezo Bharat Chhodo, and the group of youth marching towards the Allahabad court, clamoring for patriotism. When the streets leading to the court started reverberating with slogans, the British government immediately issued an alert.
Brsayi added sticks
Allahabad then collector Dickson police and SP Aga plans had to disperse by force the procession and stopped by the English police force students to march before the court. Everyone was warned to return. When the procession did not stop after warnings, a lathi charge was ordered. Sticks were thrown at the students' procession. But, even when it did not affect the youth who were in love with the country. So to stop the demonstration, Collector Diction ordered to fire.
When the tricolor air fire did not affect the procession, the diction was furious. He pointed to the procession of the students and ordered firing. To avoid the bullet, the girls lay down on the ground but Nayantara Sehgal stood at her place with the tricolor in her hand. The national flag of the country was in her hand and she did not bow down on the ground in her honor. Lal Padmadhar was watching all this and when it seemed that the British would shoot at Nayantara. Then he ran and took the tricolor in his hand and stood like a rock in front of the British.
Proceeding alone, Lal Padmadhar held the tricolor in his hand and proceeded towards the court. The Collector Diction, who was riding on a horse, was now completely stunned and seeing Lal Padmadhar taking the tricolor in his hand, moving forward towards the court, he ordered again. "Shoot Him Alone" means kill it alone. After this order of the Collector, Lal Padmadhar again started shouting slogans and the slogans of Inquilab Zindabad, Bharat Maa Ko Azad Karo reverberated with his lion's roar. By then SP Agha pulled out his pistol and fired two bullets at Lal Padmadhar's chest. In this way another brave son of the country became immortal.
