The Electric Storage Battery Company was founded on 5th June 1888 by Mr. William Warren Gibbs, Vice-President of The United Gas Improvement Company.
Gibbs had previously secured the patent of a new battery design by French inventor Clement Payen. Manufacturing of what is now called a Chloride Accumulators starts from a small single story building in Gloucester, New Jersey, USA.
