Pratap Deb graduated from Calcutta College of Art and Craft, with an astounding result of achieving 1st position in all his 5 years of education. He won numerous 1st prizes at national level art competitions and accolades since early in his life. He started his career with JWT, a leading advertising agency in India. Having entered the world of advertising art, his creatives were much appreciated by the clients, but he decided to move on to the Government of India, where a larger role awaited.

As a Head of Mass Communication & Design, he initiated many National Social Development Campaigns for the Ministry of Agriculture and subsequently for the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

He has widely traveled in America studying Graphic Art & Communication at American Universities.

Pratap was an artist and art critic with a unique ability to appreciate both commercial and fine arts. However, his heart was for Fine Art.

After spending 17 years as Head of the Commercial Art & Graphic Designing Department, he moved out of a leading vocational institution in New Delhi and immersed himself into painting at Lalit Kala Akademi studio, at Garhi, in New Delhi.

He was always inspired by the verses of Rabindranath Tagore’s poems and songs. He was also enthused by painters such as Salvador Dali, and Picasso, and by the art movements of Impressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism.

He created 16 acrylic based paintings on canvas, both modern and contemporary art, which will soon be exhibited along with his artworks which he had created since his Art College days.

For his contribution to art, the “All India Fine Art & Craft Society” (AIFACS) honored him, and the award was felicitated by the Late Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma, ex-President of India.

Pratap wrote his autobiography “Sopne Bibhor” which was published in Bengali, in 2020, to inspire others with his life’s journey.
