Shweta Raj Kanwar is a journalist, writer and social media specialist based out of Meghalaya, India. She is currently a Social Media specialist working closely with the Government of Meghalaya in documenting the State Government's COVID-19 management processes. She is known for her articles highlighting human interest and social issues in Northeast India. She was the recipient of 'Young Journalist Award' in the year 2017 for her efforts in highlighting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Northeast India. She has also been recognized by her Alma Mater with the 'Award for Academic Excellence' in the month of February 2020 for the issues she highlighted as a journalist. She was the youngest Managing Editor of Northeast India's leading news web portal, TNT-The Northeast Today from the year 2016 to 2019.

Biography

Shweta Raj Kanwar was born in Shillong, the capital town of Meghalaya on December 20, 1992. Since her childhood, she has had an inclination for art and creative expression which later became an integral part of her personal and professional life. She did her schooling in Jharkhand and Shillong. She completed her matriculation from Auxilium Girls' Higher Secondary School, Shillong, Higher Secondary with specialization in Arts from Bhajanlal Kamakhyalal Bajoria School, Shillong and Graduation with B.A Honours in Political Science from St. Edmund's College, Shillong. She then went on to pursue her M.Sc in Economics from Lovely Professional University, Punjab where she was the merit holder in her university. She was also a merit holder in her higher secondary (AISSCE) examination and was also nominated for 'The Edmundian of the Year Award' in 2011 as the best student from her department in St. Edmunds College, Shillong.

After completing her Masters in 2015, she joined Meghalaya's leading English Daily, The Shillong Times in the same year as a Sub-Editor and Feature Writer where she not only created page layouts and edited daily news and articles but also wrote for the weekly feature edition of the newspaper called The Sunday Shillong. Thereafter in 2016, she went on to venture into the digital news domain and joined The Northeast Today as an Associate Editor. Within six months, she was promoted as the Managing Editor of the media house. She served The Northeast Today in her capacity for three years and in the year 2019, she chose to move out of mainstream media and joined Meghalaya Basin Management Authority as a Social Media specialist to work closely with the Government of Meghalaya.

She is also the News Editor of Doordarshan Kendra Shillong and Consulting Editor of The Northeast Today. She also writes for The Telegraph and The Logical Indian website from time to time.
