Dettifoss is a waterfall in the glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum. It is in the conservation group 'Náttúruvætti'.[1]

Conservation first started in Iceland with Náttúruverndarlög from the year 1971 and it's the only way to securly protect zones for a long time.[2] The institution Umhverfisstofnun decides what places is to be conserved.

There are six main types of icelandic conservations.[2]

  • Fólkvangar
  • Friðlönd
  • Náttúruvætti
  • Tegundir og búsvæði (Habitat conservation)
  • Þjóðgarðar
  • Önnur svæði
