Sakura Wars (サクラ大戦, Sakura Taisen) is a dramatic adventure game developed by Sega AM7 R&D and published by Sega in 1996. It is the first game in Sega's Sakura Wars series. Originally made for the Sega Saturn, Sakura Wars has been remade and ported into many platforms.
The game's story focuses on Ichirō Ōgami, a Navy ensign who is summoned to the Great Imperial Theater to help the Imperial Assault Force fight off their enemies, the Hive of Darkness.
Sakura Wars is regarded as one of the most influential and successful games on the Sega Saturn.
Gameplay
editThe story for Sakura Wars is told in an episodic format. In it, the player may select some options. Ichirō Ōgami is controlled by the player. Players may save their game during an eyecatch in between episodes, where they can also track the progress during the game.
Adventure system
editDuring certain times, by visiting certain locations, the player may interact with various characters by a system known as the Live Interactive Picture System (LIPS). In it, the player may select three options or wait.
Battle system
editThe battle system of Sakura Wars is similar to the battles in tactical role-playing games. In it, the player controls a character in two turns.

editSakura Wars begins in the Imperial Capital, Tokyo, where the happiness is suddenly interrupted by a Wakiji. Just when the Wakiji attacks, Sakura Shinguji kills it by slicing it in half with her sword, Arataka. Meanwhile, Navy Ensign Ichirō Ōgami is assigned to be captain of Tokyo's Imperial Assault Force Flower Division by Lieutenant General Ikki Yoneda. When Ōgami and Sakura first arrive at the Great Imperial Theater, they meet Iris, Maria Tachibana and Sumire Kanzaki. However, the Black Hive of Darkness suddenly attacks Tokyo and they manage to defeat Satan. Ri Kohran arrives and the group defeats Tenkai, the evil organization's leader. Maria, after witnessing Ōgami being injured during an attack by Setsuna while saving a child, goes out to fight him alone, but she is soon captured. With the Imperial Assault Force's efforts, they manage to rescue Maria and eventually kill Setsuna.
