Tajamul Ali Mazumdar Tajamul Ali Mazumdar is one of the most renowned personalities in the Barak Valley region. Adoringly he is known as Potol Mazumdar to all big and small alike. He was born in 1949 in the village named Rangirghat, at Sonai in Cachar district of Assam, India. He is youngest of eight siblings. His father, late Massadar Ali Mazumdar was a Jury member in the court of Silchar and Panchayat chairman for many years. He is an MA from Gauhati University in Political Science. As a young lad he was known for his dynamism, ambitiousness and vision to do something on his own for his own people. It is this visions of his which lead him to be the pioneer of higher education in a remote place like Sonaimukh. He is the founder of Madhab Chandra Das College, at Sonai. It was founded in 1972. He served this college from 1972-2008. At present, also he is the President of the same college and is largely engaged in improving the college. It is the first college at Sonai. He has also founded the first English school at Sonai, named Holy Light English School, with his wife, who hails from the only Muslim tea-planter family in Cachar. He founded numerous Bengali schools in the same rural region. One of the schools is founded in his own land, after the name of his second eldest brother. He is considered to be the most influential educationist from this place. His social service to the people of Sonaimukh is unmatched and invincible. He is by soul and heart a deep Congressman and was once candidate from the party for MLA elections. He was also President of Sonai Block Congress for five years. He is now whole heartedly engaged in building the biggest Jama mosque of Barak valley at Sonai. His family includes his wife and three children. His two daughters are pursuing Ph.D in their respective expertise area and his son is CEO of Assam jute Park, Silchar. He did his Hajj in 2009 with his wife and son. His hobbies include gardening, reading and writing. He loves plantation and maintaining his own personal diary farm and fisheries. All those shows his love and passion for nature and greenery around.
