I freely confess I probably don't have as good a reason to write this as some, considering I have not lost that many in my life. But those who I have lost mean as much to me as those who anyone else has lost, so please pardon.
In loving memory.
  • Siobhán, Mother (December 4, 1961June 6, 1996) Car crash at 5 in the morning; drunk driver killed her and one of her friends.
  • Mary (May 18, 1988August 10, 2000) My best friend—and that's an understatement—from nursery days until her death. She convinced herself everyone hated her and poisoned herself with carbon monoxide. Life support for two weeks; all brain activity ceased.
  • Emma (January 18, 1990February 14, 2007) My life, my love, my bride. Delivered a stillborn son and a living daughter to me on Valentine's Day of last year and succumbed to acute renal failure.

"If you have a loved one -- a brother, sister, a parent, a child, a close friend -- and you haven't spoken to them in a while, do so. Let them know you love them. Don't have your last words to someone you care about be spoken in frustration and anger, and have to live with that forever."   — Elara
