Introduction
editWelcome! I live and work in Vancouver, British Columbia. I'm a newbie poking around the site to understand the community and hopefully contribute to this ever-growing bank of knowledge. I'm taking a course on Wikipedia as a part of University of Alberta's Masters of Communications and Technology program. It is a six-week intensive course that explores Wikipedia using a service learning approach. In my search for an online ambassador, I've already made two rookie mistakes: Forgot my signature and didn't enter an edit summary. I can only get better from here.
About me
editI'm a naturally curious person with a genuine interest in people, places, arts, culture, and technology. My online reading list is fairly extensive, spanning areas of culture, design, crafting, marketing, technology, and news. I enjoy absorbing and sharing information, so perhaps my communications career path was a fitting choice. I am easily captivated by good stories, interesting facts, and the individuality of the people I meet. These qualities make me a prime target for social media adoption, and true enough, I am a reading, tweeting, and content-sharing machine. Despite my love for technology, I am very much a fan of hyper-local community events, ma-and-pa stores, handwritten letters, and antique treasures.
Education
edit- University of Alberta, Masters of Communication & Technology (in progress)
- Simon Fraser University, Bachelor of Arts in Communications
- Professional development in leadership, design, business, photography, and social media.
Mentorship
editI've been kindly adopted by Worm that Turned, a seasoned Wikipedian who will be answering my amateur questions. I am amazed and impressed by the extensive support in this community and hope to be able to contribute to its growth.
List of Learners
editThere are a number fine burgeoning editors learning the ropes. Here is a list of my fellow classmates who are exploring the depths of Wikipedia this summer. (If you are taking Comm 597 this summer and don't see your name on the list, feel free to add yourself.)
