I have conflicts of interest regarding Astroscan and Steven M. Johnson. Regarding Astroscan, when I had a comment, I wrote it in a "talk" page and left it for editors to decide what to put in the article.
Regarding Steven Maxwell Johnson: Friendship Disclosure: Steve Johnson and I have become friends. His first book earned mention when I reviewed a different book in The Journal of Irreproducible Results, the science humor magazine that I edit. He emailed his thanks. A few years later, my visit to LA (where he then lived) afforded an opportunity to meet him, seeking ideas for the RV I planned to live in. We both enjoyed the discussion. Noticing that his books, and The Maker Faire, both riff humorous versions of bicycles, I told Johnson about the Maker Faire, and told the Maker Faire about Johnson. We ended up sharing a booth at several Maker Faires in the 2010s. We each pay our share, neither pays the other. I paid him $100 to draw a picture for one of my enterprises about 6 years ago. He contributes cartoons to my magazine for free (JIR doesn’t pay any contributor) … he’d probably permit WikiMedia to use some cartoons if you want. We chat over lunch about 3 times a year and alternate picking up the tab; the next one’s on me.
All but 3 bits of information here come from the cited sources.
Because we’re friends he has mentioned, over the years, that his birthday is May 12, that his middle name is Maxwell, and who his father and grandfather were. They pre-figure Steve’s books, and maybe his jesting attitude. I verified Paul Johnson’s editorship on the verso of the title page of the first edition. Everything about Bolton is condensed from the Wikipedia articles cited. If any of this sins against your policies, edit them out.
