Hirsh inquires into the causes and consequences of Sierra Leone's conflict over the diamonds and the greed associated with the military and political failures.The brutal violence that has occurred for their fight for democracy.Along with great wealth to certain parties while the rest of the country lives in poverty.
This book is credible because of the authors authority-Hirsh is the IPA(International Peace association )vice president as well as the ambassador of the United States of America in Freetown.He has superb academic credentials.Provides an extensive Chronology of events while in Sierra Leone, and a selected Bibliography.
Frost discusses the decade long civil war conflict and how Sierra Leone provides high quality diamonds to the luxury markets of the West,as a nation that appears to have benefited very little in return.Due to it's political failures.
The credibility comes from her extensive Bibliography of Primary Sources Cheif Archivist Albert Moore ,Government Archive of Freetown , interviews,and secondary sources of books and articles.
This book is relevant to my topic due to the struggles of Sierra Loene and the Political economy associated with diamond mining.
