David S. Carlucci (April 3, 1980) is a member of the New York State Senate, for the 38th district covering all of Rockland County and parts of Orange County, New York. He was first elected in November 2010.
Life
editDavid Carlucci was born and raised in Rockland County, graduating from Clarkstown High School North and Rockland Community College, where he was Student Representative to the college's Board of Trustees. After graduation, Carlucci volunteered for the Clarkstown chapter of the American Red Cross and served as a member of both St. Augustine's Parish Council in New City and the New City Library Board of Trustees. He later received a Leadership Scholarship to attend Cornell University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Labor Relations.
Political Career
editClarkstown Town Clerk
editCarlucci was elected Town Clerk of Clarkstown in 2005, the youngest in New York history, and was later reelected for a second and third term. In October 2009, he established a "mobile office" providing weekend hours to meet with Clarkstown residents at various locations throughout the town. Carlucci served as Records Management Officer for Clarkstown and was elected to chair the Regional Advisory Committee for the New York State Archives in April 2008. In May of 2009, Carlucci was named one of the nation's top 100 Generation NEXT and Information Technology Leaders by Innovation Generation. Later that year, he was awarded a fellowship to attend the 2009 Google Personal Democracy Forum.
New York State Senate
editIn May 2010, Carlucci announced that he would be running for the 38th district seat of the New York State Senate against current County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef on a platform of reforming Albany, capping property taxes and creating jobs in the district.[1] The seat, which had remained vacant since the death of Senator Thomas Morahan on July 12, represents Rockland County and part of Orange County. Despite facing a well-funded, 17-year incumbent, Carlucci won the race with overwhelming support.
