Paul P. McMæiler is a songwriter, most notable for being co-writer, producer and sampler of Wood band Posterium, along with Tufty Jones.
Musical Career
editIn 2008, Paul and Jones were on holiday and decided it would be a good idea to form a band, settling on the name "The Merchants of I". Paul would learn guitar, while Jones would perform vocal duties. Eventually the band dissolved, due to lack of musical talent. Roughly a year later, Jones had discovered musical talent and innovation in guitar and bass form. They re-decided to create a project and thus, Posterium was born. With the duo co writing lyrics and Jones performing the majority of instruments, Paul would handle noise experimentation, general production, programming and sampling.
Wood
editPaul grew tired of labelling music and categorisation. Due to this he and Jones have always described their music as "Wood". That way, they are free to explore all genres, no matter how the end result may be.
“ | The concept of "Wood" is idea that grew out of annoyance... like many things in life. So many different genres of mildly different music. If you add up all the subcategories of rock and metal, you're looking at something like 200, right? Well, I thought I'd solve this problem by making it worse. Another genre. "Wood". You see, "wood" in its present sense is something we, as humans, use everyday. Paper, buildings, writing tools, kinky vibrators and, my personal favourite, trees. Many things... Wood can be joined together to make something better. It can be burned and destroyed to make something cooler - despite the fact that would actually make it hotter. What I'm saying is, we can mould it to our tastes. It is a large part of society even though we don't see it sometimes. Without further digress, wood the music genre can be anything you want. Or anything we want! But one things for sure, it certainly isn't rock or metal. | ” |

Influences
editPaul has a wide range of influences, as noticeable in the music of Posterium. Most notably he is a big John Lennon fan, and a Beatles fan in general. Jones also influenced Paul's musical taste, introducing him to most notably, Stone Sour, 10,000 Cadillacs, Pitch Black Forecast, Mushroomhead and Slipknot. Posterium's lyrics are co-written, Paul's lyrical input is noticeable due to their unique and humorous traits, although he has not made a statement as such to where he gets that from.
“ | Well it's difficult to say isn't it... The lyrics are just senseless, mindless and overall stupid, but they have do a point. The order is important. Any normal idiot can think of random words, but it takes a special idiot to put them in the right order. It all stems from having a decent imagination. | ” |

Political Activism
editPaul is a strong social democrat and is prolific in the Coventry political scene. Paul is extremely outspoken on many issues, in particular as an opponent of extremely tight tobacco control along with its distribution and advertising. He is also an advocate of the legalisation of cannabis. He has often commented on his beliefs:
“ | I never supported a party. Labour at the most but all politicians end up pandering to public opinion with only slight differences on the way they go about it. I am a social democrat however. Capitalism is fundamentally flawed but is much more viable than pure Marxist socialism which just alienates everybody. Improving capitalism is the only way to move forward. In particular though... The constant and unrelenting legislation on tobacco annoys me so much. Now please understand me, I absolutely do not endorse smoking whatsoever. But the over-regulation makes no sense and just contributes to a vapid, miserable society. Does banning the display of Marlboro logos on a Ferrari F1 car make kids not smoke? No. Does banning the display of tobacco products and putting them under the counter make kids not smoke? Still no. Does making them so unobtainable, so frowned upon and so condemned make enhance kids' curiosity about them? Almost certainly yes. | ” |
