Stuttgart-East (German: Stuttgart-East) is one of the five inner city districts of the German city of Stuttgart. It is located between the district Stuttgart-Center and the river Neckar. The city district ist made up of the older areas Berg, Gablenberg, Gaisburg and Ostheim as well as the new areas Frauenkopf, Stöckach, Uhlandshöhe and Gänsheide.

The historic settlements Berg, Gablenberg and Gaisburg and others built after the 18th century have merged to form one more or less continuous urban area.

Out of the historic settlements only Gaisburg (first mentioned in the 12th century) was its own indepent municipality. On 1 April 1901 Gaisburg was incorporated into the city of Stuttgart as a district and was from then on run as such. The coat of arms displays a black goat on a green three-pointed hill. This subject can be seen on seals from as far back as 1768.

The settlement Berg, which is also proven to have existed in the 12th century, belonged to the ducal court chamber and was run by ducal officers until control was passed to the city of Stuttgart in 1836.

Gablenberg, first mentioned 1275, was an extension hamlet of Berg and has belonged to Stuttgart for a very long time. Gaisburg, Gablenberg and Berg were once seperated from the city of Stuttgart. The settlement of Ostheim then added on to the three existing settlements. Its 383 Houses, including the Colony Ostheim, were built for workers from 1891 until 1903. Raitelsberg, another workers' estate followed in the years 1927 until 1929. The newest areas to be populated are Buchwald (1932 - 1955) and Plettenberg (1939 - 1960).

Bei der Einteilung der Stadt Stuttgart in Stadtbezirke im Jahre 1956 entstand der heutige Stadtbezirk Stuttgart-Ost aus dem gleichnamigen Stadtteil, der die inzwischen räumlich nicht mehr getrennten Gebiete Berg, Gablenberg, Gaisburg und Ostheim umfasste, und dem etwas weiter südlich davon gelegenen Stadtteil Frauenkopf.
