Hi,

I am Sujeewa de Silva. I live in Sri Lanka and I am very interested in linguistics.

My interest in languages emerged even before I faced my G.C.E (O.L.) examination. However, owing to the nature of the Sri Lankan educational system and the unrealistic expectations of our social set-up, I took science subjects afterwards and finally gained admission to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka.

After getting disillusioned there, I decided to leave that field and concentrate on languages instead. It was an uphill task studying several foreign tongues without much outside help, but in the process I was also able to understand the shortcomings of general language instruction in Sri Lanka.

Currently, I am engaged in, among other things, passing on to others what I have learned by sheer effort, and as part of that exercise have started writing a Sinhala-language blog - ඉංගිරිසි Ingirisi - to offer some support to Sri lankans learning English as an international language.
