Cabdikarim Xaashi Cilmi was a military commander and Veteran of the Somali National Movement and later a Military commander of the Somaliland Armed Forces. He belonged to the Makahiil branch of the Sa'ad Musa subclan of the Habr Awal.

Cabdikarim Xaashi Cilmi was a prominent figure in the Somali National Movement (SNM). He joined the SNM in 1983, driven by a strong desire to fight against the oppressive regime of Siad Barre. His Advanced Military experience and leadership skills quickly earned him a significant role within the movement.

Burco Duurey

On October 17, 1984, Cabdikarim Xaashi Cilmi played a crucial role in the Battle of Burco Duuray. As the Deputy Commander of the battalion, he led his troops with courage and strategic acumen. The battle was one of the most intense confrontations between the SNM and the forces of Siad Barre, resulting in significant casualties.The Somali National Army (SNA) lost 170 soldiers, while the SNM lost 27 soldiers. This significant disparity in casualties resulted in a major victory for the SNM.

Tragically, during the battle, the battalion's commander, Lixle, was killed in combat. Following this loss, Cabdikarim Xaashi Cilmi was appointed as the new commander, a testament to his leadership and bravery. Under his command, the battalion continued to fight valiantly, contributing to the SNM's efforts in the struggle for Somali independence.

Battle of Hargeisa 1988

In 1988, Cabdikarim Xaashi Cilmi also fought in the Battle of Hargeisa. This was another fierce confrontation between the SNM and government forces. During the battle, Cabdikarim sustained injuries and was treated in a hospital in Ethiopia. After his recovery, he continued to fight against the regime until 18th may 1991, when Somaliland was finally liberated.
